Change inherently means loss. Something dies as something else is born. As one foot steps forward into the next moment in time, the other foot must leave any comfort or security it has known in the place it has been. There can be a sense of apprehension that hangs in the air as we are about to enter the unknown. Most importantly, it is our choice to turn that apprehension into fear, or excited anticipation and happy adventuring. How do we face change without pain?
Certainty and Peace
Letting go of the comfort we’ve known does not mean we have to let go of our sense of certainty or our feeling of inner peace. No one is prying open our hand to steal our prized peace from us. Certainty and peace actually are not located in the hand, but rather, deep within. Discovering where it is located and feeling its presence can be a good exercise. Further, we can practice to build our confidence in its existence and companionship and moves us closer to mastering peace.
Equate Loss
Many equate loss with pain, but the two things do not belong together. All losses come with gifts; we may just need to look at them with fresh eyes. The awakened eyes that come with the cultivation of emotional intelligence. There comes a point when something has served its purpose. If we can equate the loss as the loss of something appropriate or good, instead of bringing pain into the equation, then we release ourselves to the next evolution of self and experience on a higher energetic note.
In conclusion, how you go through change is your choice. No one is standing over you forcing you to change or to navigate change in any certain way. It is we who decide this and who take the steps through change. Simply asking ourselves if we are ready for the change, or wanting the change, is a good preliminary measure to take. When we embrace change, welcome it, ride it like a surfboard out into the sea of life, then we can experience the adventure that life truly is with enthusiasm, grace, and delight rather than with fear, pain, and regret.
